Lausanne 2010 Conference

2nd Integrating Conference - Lausanne, 9-12 March 2010

Programme

First Announcement

Preliminary Programme

The 2nd NanoImpactNet Conference will start with a 1-day training workshop for junio scientists followed by a 3-day conference. This training workshop is aimed at PhD-students, postdocs and early-career scientists and provides training on handling protocols, choices of control materials, dispersion procedures, and hazard evaluation procedures. The conference will be divided in 5 sessions:

  • Session 1: Interaction between nanomaterials and biological barriers
  • Session 2: Nanomaterial behaviour with regard to environmental and physical barriers
  • Session 3: Quality control in nanomaterial research
  • Session 4: Nanotechnology as a tool for impact assessement
  • Session 5: From research to policy
  • Special staekholder session on food

.

Special information for nanosafety cluster members

After each session, a panel discussion will take place between distinguished scientists. Members of the nanosafety cluster will automatically be part of the discussion (1 person/ project, the coordinator by default). As such, the coordinators from the cluster can benefit from the academic rate. Furthermore, panel participants will be mentionned in the final programme.

Please remember that each project can be presented with a poster. When you submit your abstract, make sure you tick "Research project" in the topic section. Also, choose the research domain with care as it will determine in which session you will participate in the panel discussion.

Registration

Registration deadline: 19 February 2010. To register, complete the registration form below and send it following the instructions in the form. If you have any questions, please contact registration@nanoimpactnet.eu.

CLOSED! Abstract submission

Abstract submission deadline: 11 December 2009. The conference invites presentations from all fields dealing with the impact of nanomaterials on health and the environment. The conference will be a place to present and discuss the state of the art research, current challenges, new initiatives and their implications. Please follow the formatting instructions on the form and send your abstract in both Word and pdf format to registration@nanoimpactnet.eu. Your abstract will be reviewed by the scientific committee and you will be notified whether your abstract is accepted or not at the end of January 2010.

We have a special format for presenting research projects. Those abstracts may be selected for a special poster session. In addition, you may be invited to participate in one of the panel discussions (preference given to projects from within the FP7 nanosafety cluster). Oral presentations will be exclusively for research findings.

Best poster award

If you are an early stage researcher (students and researchers with less than 4 years of research experience following their PhD) you are entitled to compete for the best poster award. To apply, click the appropriate box on the abstract submission form.

CLOSED! Symposium proposal

Symposium proposal deadline: 11 December 2009. We invite participants to propose and organise their own symposium on a theme of interest to the NanoImpactNet community. To submit a proposal, complete the form below and send it no later than 11 December 2009 following the instructions in the form. If you have questions, please contact registration@nanoimpactnet.eu. Give at least 3 organisers names, preferably from different institutes.

We will provide rooms with a computer and internet access. Each discussion session will be allocated 1h45 on 11 March between 8am and 12pm. If your application is accepted, it will be your responsibility to encourage participants to attend your symposium. Proposals will be reviewed by the scientific committee and you will be notified whether your symposium has been accepted by the end of January 2010.

CLOSED! Travel grant request

Travel grant request deadline: 11 December 2009. The goal of a travel grant is to enhance the scientific impact of NanoImpactNet events and to promote the dissemination of information to other networks. Travel grants provide an incentive for NanoImpactNet members to contribute their knowledge. To apply for a travel grant complete the form below, making sure you meet all the selection criteria (listed in the form), and send it to registration@nanoimpactnet.eu.

Conference proceedings publications

NanoImpactNet will submit a publication of the proceedings of the 2nd NanoImpactNet Conference to a peer-reviewed journal. All participants are welcome to actively participate in the elaboration of this paper. If you wish to contribute, please announce yourself to the organisers at the latest 1 week after the conference (info@nanoimpactnet.eu).

The following journals have shown interest in publishing NanoImpactNet proceedings:

  • The Journal of Aerosol Science (JAS) welcomes submissions of top quality manuscripts from conference participants that are within the scope of the journal. Submitted manuscript will undergo the regular peer review process of JAS.

.

  • The Particle and Fibre Toxicology Journal (PFT) is interested as a journal to receive papers within its scope and its Editor-in-Chief Paul Borm favors that PFT is the preferred journal for submissions on toxicological presentations.

.

  • The Nanotoxicology journal welcomes submissions of top quality manuscripts from conference participants that are within the scope of the journal. Submitted manuscript will undergo the regular peer review process.

.

  • Environmental Pollution would be interested in articles but they will undergo normal peer review according to the normal rules of the journal.
